Sleep loss and chronic stress tend to push all of this toward higher-energy, quickly absorbed foods, which then reshapes the microbiome further and reinforces the same cravings.
An obesogenic environment on top of biology
None of this happens in a vacuum. Ultra-processed, hyper-palatable food has become cheaper and more available for decades, and constant advertising keeps food, rather than genuine hunger, driving a large share of daily eating decisions. What GLP-1 medications seem to do, beyond appetite regulation, is make that marketing and hyper-palatability noticeably less compelling, which is why some people also notice reduced interest in alcohol and other reward-driven habits. That's a meaningful public health effect on top of weight loss itself.
